The night before the solar eclipse there was an intense lightning storm as if to announce the arrival of the moon and sun alignment. In Kauai, we didn't get totality like places across the mainland but we did have a cosmic experience that will last a lifetime nonetheless. I woke before the sun to grab my camera gear, get down the hill to Kealia and set up to greet the experience with an open lens cap. Here are a few photos of the lightning, solar eclipse sunrise and a video of the moon starting its shift into alignment through the cloudy morning over the Pacific Ocean.
